River Trips

Smallmouth Trips:
Rock On fishes from the headwaters in NC to the WV state line, well over 150 miles of river!  We have several pre-planned trips that we know are quality floats. However, if you have a section of river that you would like to fish, just ask! We have a guide located 2 miles from the confluence of the North and South Forks of the New River in NC that is knowledgeable of this section of river. Some sections may require an additional charge which we will discuss at time of booking. We provide top-notch tackle and a willingness to share our knowledge of catching trophy smallmouth. We primarily fish from March through November, however if you are an experienced angler we will fish the winter months with you. The winter can be very tough and cold, so be prepared.  This time of year can produce some trophy size fish.

Musky Trips:

Challenge yourself to an adventure of a lifetime! Rock On offers fully guided musky trips on both the New River and the James River.  Plan on spending the day casting and working hard for a true trophy fish.  There is nothing quite like watching one of these brutes follow your lure and crushing it right in front of you!  It's a one of a kind experience; you'll be hooked!  We have limited dates available and they will go fast.  Book early to go after these elusive monsters of the river! Tackle is provided for all musky trips. We offer musky trips year round, except July-August, but certain times of the year are far more productive than others. We will be glad to discuss this with you, just give us a call!

There's nothing like spending your day with a knowledgeable guide, "Team Rock On" is the regions top musky outfitter. Years of combined knowledge and a hardcore approach from our guides is what sets the standard for the others to follow, come see the difference of  "Professional" fishing guides.

Walleye Trips:
Portions of the New River are home to a unique native population of walleye and thanks to the efforts of the VA Dept of Game and Inland Fisheries and graduate research at Virginia Tech, the New has become a fantastic walleye fishery in recent years.  Walleye fishing peaks February-April during spawning season and we specifically target walleye during this period, however, these fish can be caught year round.

Wildlife Viewing and Scenic River Trips:
Virginia's rivers are truly amazing!  Spend the day taking in the scenery, the wildlife and the abundance of birds along your journey. Our guides are happy to accommodate customers who just want to spend a relaxing day on the river taking it all in and talking about the history of these majestic bodies of water, bring your camera and binoculars! Please call us to discuss rates for these tours!

All smallmouth and musky trips are catch and release only. We all must do our part to sustain the fishery for generations to come! We will help you measure, weigh, and photo your trophy so you can get a replica mount if you desire.

Shuttle: Our rates are some of the best on the river and we ask for your assistance to keep them that way. There are some areas/floats that require us to hire an outside contractor to run shuttle service. If you choose one of those floats we will have to add a small, additional fee($10-15). If we are picking you up from one of our partner's locations there will be a 'pick up/drop off' fee applied to your trip.

What to bring: We recommend wearing polarized sunglasses which will allow you to see the underwater structure you are fishing.  Sunblock is a must, even on those early spring floats when it's not that hot.  Always bring your rain gear, rain can pop up on the river at any time.  Dress in non cotton layers, you can always take some layers off.  Even in the spring and summer the mornings can be cool.  It's always cooler on the water! We fish from self-bailing rafts and there may be water in the boat.  We recommend wearing waterproof footwear or waders in the spring and fall. You must have a valid Virginia fishing license with you to fish. You can obtain one online at http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/licenses/ .

Deposit: We require a $100 deposit on all trips. This is a non-refundable deposit. You must notify us 48 hours prior to your trip to cancel. We will reschedule your trip within one year of your original trip date. We do fish in the rain, only lightning or unsafe river levels will cause us to cancel a trip.

Gratuity: Our guides work hard for you!  A 15-20% gratuity is customary.  Remember this is fishing, not catching and everyday provides challenges.  But one thing is for sure, our guides know their craft and will do everything to make sure you have a quality day on the water. We give 100% every trip.  Every time.
